The Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences jointly planned by the School of Public Health and the Medical School combines the separate master's programmes formerly arranged by the same departments. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach to health issues from a global and public health perspective and utilises both traditional and problem based approaches to learning. From 2011 onwards the programme coordination is in Tampere School of Public Health. The Master's Degree in Health Sciences produces health care experts who are familiar with health, health care resources and the general themes and special features of national and international health care systems.

There are two options for major subject areas: Public Health and International Health. Public Health aims to equip graduates to work specifically in national health care at population level research, development and expert functions. International Health puts further emphasis on work in multicultural organisations and focuses on the health effects of globalisation and the challenges to health care. Students make their choice of major subject area in their application to the programme.
