Hagiographica Septentrionalia

Society for Hagiographic Studies

The society 'Hagiographica Septentrionalia' intends to promote interdisciplinary research on the social, cultural, political and other aspects of sainthood in European medieval society.

The society is open to all scholars from the world-wide academic community who share our interests. Hagiographica Septentrionalia intends to promote all kind of research related to saints, miracles and cults, from Late Antiquity up to the early Modern period. The interplay and mutual exchanges between Northern, Southern and other regional forms of sainthood are of special interest, as well as are the place and function of sainthood and forms of cult within society, everyday life and culture.

The society is based at the University of Tampere, Finland, and linked to the Tampere Centre for Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern Studies 'Trivium', which is attached to the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Tampere.
