Translation: Pirkko Koivunen Micromovies, which have raised a lot of hype in the last couple of years, have quietly disappeared from the festival. This year, the short films compatible for mobile phones are not in the programme of Tampere Film Festival at all. What happened to the micromovies, Festival Director Jukka-Pekka Laakso? "Organizing a competition of high quality is expensive, and this year, our budget wouldn't have allowed managing the event properly. In the past two years, we wanted to open the discussion about the new media. After all, nobody still really knows what mobile movies are." Funding is always the problem in developing new technology. When it comes to the next year's programme, the micromovie or mobie (mobile image) is still a question mark. As the Festival has no own objectives concerning micromovies, there is not much hope of public funding, either. If the industry started contributing to the vital development work, Laakso would take the micromovies back to the festival programme. "This is a topical and sensible project, and if we can find sponsors, we are ready".
