Tähdenlentoja (Shooting Stars), an event featuring films by mentally disabled persons, filled the Pakkahuone Hall of the Old Customs House on Wednesday. There were about 700-800 viewers in the event. This was even more than the organisers had hoped for.

"There were visitors from many towns. I have received extremely positive feedback for the event, people have really been looking forward to it", says Tuula Väisänen, the project manager of the Tähdenlentoja association.

Tähdenlentoja association aims at promoting the cinematic culture of special groups. The association was born by coincidence.

"In 1999, we arranged an event where we screened films made by mentally disabled people. The event was a huge success, so we decided to develope the idea further", Väisänen says."We started looking for people who would like to develop the cinematic activities of special groups. To get funding, we had to found an association."

Tähdenlentoja has been arranged in Tampere since 2000. This year, the theme of the event was News and Interviews. But even though the theme sounds serious, the filmmakers didn’t take it too seriously. As a proof, laughter often bursts out in the audience.
