TRENPK5 Digital Literacy and Academic
Knowledge Management is a required English Translation and FAST Area
Studies basic course offered in both the fall and spring terms. PK5 should
be completed during the first year of study, before students begin
Intermediate studies.
PK5 covers Basic Competencies in digital
knowledge management, including fundamentals of UTA e-mail, configuration
tips and 'survival UNIX' for effective work on Kielo, the academic
citation of digital sources, document conversion among digital
formats, the use of Listserv
technology for both Tampere coursework and to obtain specialized
information from elsewhere, and the creation and modification of audio
files, images, webforms and html
page(s) relevant to academic and professional translation work. Web
searching methods and the deployment of web-based information are also
covered.
PK5 meets on Mondays from 1415-1545. All relevant exam material will be covered during the classes.
Students should subscribe to PK5-L. When
classwork has been completed, students should schedule individual exam times.
